Publisher Note

With “Nachtschichten”, volume 3 of the publication series of the Institute for Contemporary Arts at the Zurich University of the Arts will be published as a research report of a special kind.
As part of a research project, eleven artists produced audio works for the radio. The contributions explore in various ways new methods and techniques to operate with extremely long work and broadcast times.
Each of the eleven contributions recorded the radio nights for two weeks, i.e. about 50 hours each. The series, which was broadcast on Radio LoRa, lasted a total of over six months.
The three CDs accompanying the publication contain representative excerpts of about fifteen minutes each of these radio works. The most important information on the construction and content of the works and their authors can be found in the descriptions of the works. The visual contributions give an impression of the working processes.
In addition, this publication contains four essays that discuss the radio works from different points of view and place them in different artistic and theoretical contexts.
