Publisher Note
A history of reading narrated in images, with books as objects of contemplation, highlighting their format, graphic design and volume. The book features portraits of Jerome, the translator of the Bible into Latin and the patron saint of librarians and translators. On each page, only one detail is visible, showing the presence of the book next to the hermit monk. The images were transformed into shades of gray, preserving only the red areas of his clothing. Thus stripped of color, context and other elements, the paintings, most of which are from the Baroque period, have the book and the text depicted as the main characters.
