Work Description

Working in Progress: Reimagine the Identity of Urban Spectrum explores the archival works of Berlin-trained architect Herianto Sulindro (Indonesia, b.1928 - ), who completed his studies in Germany, worked as an architect for 30 years in Zurich. Intersecting perspectives from a daughter, an architectural photographer, a migrant Chinese researcher, and a Southeast Asia-focused curator, the project delves into urban landscapes, nature, Chinese-Indonesian migration, and Zurich’s historical development, interwoven with family history and personal narratives. Together, this book reflects on the cultural dynamic and spatial texture generated by contemporary Asian identities in Western contexts from Herianto’s life journey, to discover the feasibility of future narrative.

Publisher Note

SUAVEART, a research-based curatorial institution, focuses on environmental, nonhuman perspectives, and nonplace issues within island contexts, exploring the intersection of art, science and life. Since 2008, our focus has been on Southeast Asian regional contemporary art. Established in Taiwan in 2015, we facilitate experimental cultural implementations and interdisciplinary collaborations. Supported by industry links, art consultants, and communities, we engage in artistic research, art residency, curation, and transnational exchanges.
