The artist book YOU ARE MINE presents Daniela Comani’s eponymous series of wall pieces which are printed on cotton with an aluminum background simulating wrinkled newspaper clippings. They continue her research into femicide. The work draws on brief press reports about domestic violence and violent relationship crimes. Both, the artist book and the text- images, invite the viewer to experience how a simple gender conversal of the crime protagonists dramatically changes the narrative: Male becomes female, victim becomes perpetrator and vice versa. The work incorporates articles in German, Italian and English. It highlights the urgency of the issue, revealing it as a pressing problem right on our doorstep.
The artist book has been published on the occasion of
the exhibitions Daniela Comani: The Reading Room at Kunstverein am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, Berlin in 2024, and the Bangkok Art Biennale, 2024 – 2025. A selection of the text- images was first presented in You Are Mine at the at Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome 2022.
