Publisher Note

The artist publication “50 Works on Paper (Beijing 2007)” by the Zurich-based painter Christian Vetter brings together the completed block of fifty grisailles, which were created during the artist's residency in China.
In his painting, Vetter has for some time been concerned with stagings, landscapes, architecture, monuments, stage sets and film sets. The black-and-white pictures collected in the current publication, however, go a decisive step further and ask about the relationship between the inner and the outer world and about where man stands in the world, what space he occupies. In his work, Vetter has made a change of perspective: from an external to an internal reality of the hidden pictorial space.
On the occasion of the Manor Art Prize 2008 at the Kunstmuseum St. Gallen, a monographic publication will be published, making Christian Vetter’s work, which today comprises painting, installation and photography, accessible.
