For his artist’s booklet, Rolf Graf cuts horizontally fourteen times through the three-dimensionally imagined word V O I R. The abstract image of the cuts, a constellation of black bars changing from page to page, is at the centre of the booklet: seeing instead of reading. The word V O I R itself only reconstitutes itself in our imagination, only becomes readable again as an imagination. Anyone who is prepared to cut the booklet vertically and thus - at least partially – destroy it, can read the word: in the vertical middle cut.
With his booklet, whose limited number of pages can stand for the limited grasp of reality, Graf shows not only the partial, but also the successive character of our perception that can be experienced by continuously flipping through the booklet.
