This manual is a proposal for a publishing model as a commons. Because this model was created within a specific time, place, and context, we—the participating publishers—are well aware that it may be difficult to (re)apply or (re)contextualize it exactly as it is in other environments. Instead, what we hope is that the small ideas contained in this manual can be extracted and reused, or serve as seeds of inspiration that may grow within different contexts and practices. For this reason, we encourage you to actively add your own thoughts and ideas to this manual.
This manual is part of a continually evolving process, and it will keep developing along with new ideas as future versions are created. This edition is #snapshot 1, produced and published in the spring of 2025 by Humdrum Press, The Book Society, and Common Imprint.
