Women have been traveling in the mountains since the beginning of alpinism. They organized mountain tours, climbed peaks, captured views and achievements photographically and told stories about their experiences. Nevertheless, their stories are little known to the public and hardly documented in the collection of the Swiss Alpine Museum.
This book counteracts this fact. Forty photographs from various holdings show women at the center of mountaineering practice from the early 20th century to the 1970s. The images provide a diverse insight into the museum's collection and document the changes in mountain sports.
Four accompanying texts reflect on the topic of women in alpinism with a current and historical focus.
