Publisher Note
The complete destruction of the Afghan infrastructure after years of armed conflict and the American bombings is the subject of the committed photographs by Simon Norfolk, which were taken between 1979 and 2001.
The documentary photo book by Simon Norfolk on the traces of the 25-year war in Afghanistan makes the tragic history of the country very clear. Some photos literally merge nature and culture and other images show the "rusty remains of military installations" that would look like "skeletons of dinosaurs", all without accusation. There are also traces of hope in some of the pictures, such as the pictures of paper kites and balloons.
Norfolk, who has already toured Northern Ireland, Eastern Europe, Rwanda and Namibia, received the European Publisher Award for this photo book about Afghanistan.
Simon Norfolk was born in 1963 in Lagos, Nigeria. He lives in Hove and Kabul.
