Publisher Note
Night after night, a Japanese monk walked around Mount Hiei in order to empty his conscious mind and transform into a ›living Buddha‹. By the end, he had walked a distance equivalent to the Earth’s circumference. For this unique artist book, being publication and sculpture alike, Swedish Photographer August Eriksson (*1971) travelled to Mount Hiei as well, to undertake the same walk and maybe find the legendary wandering monk. Two questions were prompting him: how perception is related to one’s movement and if there is existential meaning in something as seemingly futile as moving-in-circles.
