Publisher Note
From autumn 2003 to summer 2004 the Kunsthaus Zürich was completely renovated for the first time in its history. The young Swiss artist Ingo Giezendanner recorded this process in drawings commissioned by the Kunsthaus. As “Die Bau Zeitung” Giezendanner’s large-format views are now available in the form of a newspaper.
Ingo Giezendanner visited the Kunsthaus building site repeatedly during the construction work and produced a few dozen felt-tip pen drawings in half a year. The black-and-white studies record the transformations on site in the form of an artistic diary. They are works that oscillate between documentary fidelity and abstraction, and repeatedly open up unexpected insights into the complex construction process.
“Bau Zeitung” collects drawings, all of which show surprising views, perspectives and excerpts from the Kunsthaus – drawings that will still be relevant when the construction site is long gone.
