Publisher Note
The "Magical Misery Tour" is an artist tour. Kippenberger collects material and interacts with the urban structures, resulting in numerous actions in public space. Böckler's job is to document all of this. More than 150 pictures are taken in which both her personal gaze and the visions of the legendary artist flow together:
Kippenberger poses in front of modernist sculptures and buildings; Taped onto a giant advertising beer bottle; kneeling on the beach of Maceió imitates the oak planter of the 50 pfenning piece with a small palm tree; "Martin gives public sculptures new names or signs them with his mark (...)."
The trip also includes the legendary campaign of the fictitious purchase of the Martin Bormann petrol station. “We stop at a petrol station that Martin wants to buy in full and baptizes it with the name“ Petrol station Martin Bormann ”. He explains to me that Bormann was a high-ranking Nazi who escaped to South America and now operates a "gas station" somewhere in Brazil.
