With “Gespräche” Till Velten presents an extensive anthology of his conversations. With thirty-nine selected conversations, the volume provides a representative insight into the methods and interests of the artist. “Conversations” is published on the occasion of Till Velten's first major solo museum presentation at the Helmhaus Zurich.
Till Velten conducts conversations. He talks to theologians, pizza bakers, scientists, farmers and so on. His drive is curiosity, his interest in encounter; he explores skills and passions, small and large questions of life, peculiarities and things that concern everyone. Velten conducts the conversations, once short interviews, then detailed surveys and discussions for research purposes. He lets himself be guided by his own interests and what his interlocutors address.
“Conversations” is a wonderfully digressive volume of text which, on the one hand, focuses on and brings to life the many female interlocutors with their stories and, on the other hand, allows us to get on the trail of the questioning artist. In this sense, the volume “Conversations” guarantees not only insight into Velten's work, but also many enjoyable hours of reading.
