Work Description
LIFTVAN TRIEST is an exhibition that began with Aenne Biermann and extends into the port of Trieste, where it both continues and is lost.Aenne Biermann (1898–1933) was a photographer who, within a very short period of time, established herself as one of the leading representatives of German avant-garde photography. In 1940, parts of her estate—including original prints and negatives—disappeared in a liftvan’ belonging to her family, on its way to Palestine from the port of Trieste. Heidi Specker's research lead to an interview with Daria Brasca, Anneliese Schallmeiner, and Albena Zlatanova, who participated in a symposium at the German Maritime Museum in Bremerhaven on the confiscation of Jewish emigrants’ household property by National Socialist authorities in European port cities. This interview is available in the booklet accompanying the poster series.
