Publisher Note
In October 2020, Alexandre Guirkinger led a two-week photography workshop for six asylum seekers living in the port city of Cherbourg in Normandy.
The project was based on the notion of landscape as characterised by a dual movement, encompassing both representation and appropriation. Participants listed places that either made a distinct impression on them from their arrival in the city, that they pass through every day, or that they especially enjoy.
Guirkinger helped them with scouting and photographing these places and steered the discussions.
This book documents the workshop as a first volume in a series on similar future workshops to be held in various French cities.
