Jana Schröder’s “Pheltie 170” is a daring artist book. Encompassing careful facsimiles of 70 marker drawings, the book is a matter-of-fact sketch block. Schröder’s practice, derived from handwriting, is expressive and conceptual, all at once. It is a profound mediation on the traces of corporeal presence as well as the processual polarities of unleashed movement and stasis, rigid order and outburst. Flipping through the beautiful book’s pages, you’ll be embraced by its delightful excess.
“Pheltie 170” is a limited edition of 70 signed and numbered issues.
As its first page, each artist book includes a bound-in original drawing.
