Through 29 series of photographs that make up SHIFTED REALITIES, Michael Baumgarten transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary.

In Michael Baumgarten's imagery, objects have escaped the repetition of everyday life, to play in their own theatre; staged in castles, on country estates and in pleasure gardens sometimes even in simpler dwellings a field or at sea; immersing themselves in enchanted worlds.
For many years, the pictorial illusionary spaces presented in this Shifted Realities publication have been created in the photographer's work, published in magazines or exhibited.

Michael Baumgarten (1971) is a German photographer and motion artist. After working for German-speaking theatres and studying performing arts, Baumgarten organized a Fotofestival in Frankfurt. In 1993 he moved to Paris in order to approach multimedia and still photography via assisting and autodidact studies. Since then he has worked for various magazines and design houses.
