In their project "Shops with History – Sundry Goods in Vienna", Martin Frey and Philipp Graf have been photographing old business portals in Vienna since 2009: www.geschaeftemitgeschichte.at.

In autumn 2018, they presented the exhibition "SPURENSUCHE 2018" ("Looking for Traces 2018") at the gallery of the Lia Wolf Cabinett bookstore, Vienna. This photo book shows the 22 pairs of images from this exhibition, for which they selected shops from their collection in the summer of 2018 that no longer existed at that time. They visited their locations and in most cases were able to photographically record the condition they found. The permanent change and upheaval in which the public space – from the urban centre to the periphery – is located became perceptible in the most diverse places of the city. The photographs of the old stores were juxtaposed with the new conditions; a period of two to six years lies between the comparative photographs. The photo book is published in a limited and signed edition of 150 copies.
