Published in conjunction with his research project LIBRARY FOR A SCIENTIFIC FILM, as part of the Norwegian Research Fellowship Program at The Academy of Fine Arts, Oslo.
Over the past years Andreas Bunte has worked within the format of short experimental film and film installation, which frequently incorporate a variety of other media such as collages, architectural structures, sound, texts, etc. At the heart of his practice lies an interest in the interplay between technology, architecture and the body and how this interplay is reflected in our physical environment.
“Scientific research film is founded on the idea of pre observation and trying to document something as thoroughly and objectively as possible. (…) I use the term ‘mere showing’ to describe this concept, which was developed and promoted by the German Institut für den Wissenschaftlichen Film in Göttingen (IWF) in he 1960s.” (Andreas Bunte) The IWF was a leading institution in the field of scientific film and played a key role in shaping the genre. The filmmakers understood film as a tool for producing visual evidence that would then become subject to scientific scrutiny.
