Publisher Note
Between August and October 2016, a sequence of strong seismic shocks hit the internal areas of Macerata, Ascoli Piceno, and Fermo. In those places medium-sized and small communities enjoyed a long period of artistic splendor between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. In this diffused museum the earthquake, on the one hand, imposed the loss and lacerating presence of ruins, and, on the other, the creation of temporary structures of all kinds. Temporary shelters for the inhabitants and their activities; temporary storage areas, most of which invisible, to safeguard over 16,000 objects that lost their original location.
Terre in movimento invited three artists, Olivo Barbieri, Paola De Pietri, and Petra Noordkamp, to shape their personal gazes upon these very places. Their work does not just represent a compensation for the territory, but, rather, aspires to initiating a broader and multifaceted artistic research into the metamorphosis of the Marche landscape.
