Publisher Note
Thirty-Three Monsters by Lydia Zinovieva-Annibal, is a novella in the form of a diary, first published in St. Petersburg in 1907. In the "Silver Age" of Russian literature, Lydia Zinovieva Annibal ran a literary salon there, "The Tower" together with her husband, the symbolist Viacheslav Ivanov. As the first lesbian novella, "33 Monsters" was quickly banned in Russia and is now published for the first time as a bilingual edition in English and Russian by Eléonore de Montesquiou. The French-Estonian artist also illustrated the book with Varvara Toropkova and Jenny Zinovieff has produced a new translation into English.
