Publisher Note

Urbild, in German means "archetype" or rather "primordial image", referring, at this juncture, to the memory of Salento.
And Salento is the place where the first artistic residency promoted by Red Lab Gallery, a contemporary art gallery based in Milan and Lecce, took place.

The concept behind the residency was to establish a dialogue between Francesca Loprieno, an author who often uses photography and video as artistic mediums, and an author, Gianfranco Basso who uses different expressive means, including embroidery in particular.
During the residency the two artists dealt with the theme of memory, exploring the places and coming into contact with the artisan realities active in the area, to recover the origins of the Salento culture, between folklore and literature, manual traditions and ancestral myths.

Finally, the residence gave life to a fascinating volume that contains, perfectly harmonized with each other, the Artist's Book of the two authors, Gianfranco Basso and Francesca Loprieno, the Diary of the entire residence held by the curator Carmelo Cipriani - journalist and curator of the residence, and a Poster depicting the site specific installation created by Basso and Loprieno in the Chapel of the Palazzo Ducale in San Cesario di Lecce.
