Publisher Note

“Performance Saga, Interviews 01–08” collects video recordings of conversations with female pioneers of performance art who played a decisive role in the development and establishment of the new art form in the 1960s and 1970s. Starting from painting, sculpture, literature, film or photography, they began to use their bodies as a medium of art.
For “Performance Saga, Interviews 01–08” Andrea Saemann and Chris Regn interviewed eight protagonists. In a conversation among female artists, the pioneers talk about their work and the conditions under which their pieces were created, providing insight into their self-understanding and thinking.
The present edition is published as a series of 8 DVDs, which can be purchased as single titles or as a package. Each DVD contains a conversation of about 50 minutes and an accompanying booklet with a text about the artists’ work.
