Weather. A Force of Nature is a collection of powerful and dramatic images of weather phenomena from around the world. Each image is taken from the annual competition hosted by the Royal Meteorological Society and published in partnership with the Natural History Museum.
They depict thrilling weather events of every kind and often reveal fascinating stories about their impact on human society. The images were selected by a panel of meteorologists, photographers and photo editors who look for a combination of skillful camera work and meteorological observation.
The essays address various aspects of climate change, not least its impact on extreme weather.

The Royal Meteorological Society was founded in 1850, at Hartwell House in Aylesbury, and it has long been a pioneer in the field of meteorology. A small group of passionate individuals, astronomers and meteorologists came together to establish an organization dedicated to advancing the understanding of weather and climate. The Society quickly grew, and by May 1850, it had expanded to 90 members, including the renowned Luke Howard, famous for naming clouds. In 1866, "The Meteorological Society" received a Royal Charter, and in 1883, it was granted the prestigious title of "Royal Meteorological Society" by Queen Victoria.
Today the Royal meteorological Society (RMETS) is a learned and professional body, as well as a leading international expert in weather and climate. RMETS champions groundbreaking research and provides educational support.
