Taking the form in essence of a play, this creative tour de force by the composer and writer Michael Higgins is the first volume of ‘In Search of the Missing Orrery’, a contemporary performance cycle based on the medieval mystery play tradition. The narrative of Baize Bound Beauty unfolds around thirteen diverse characters on a morning of February 2nd, in a sequence of 26 acts, 10 intervals and performance duration of 15 hours. Accompanying the text is a set of detailed stage directions, a unique index and over one hundred illustrations by the author combining to produce a highly complex work, but one with remarkable clarity that retains a sense of its single conception.
