Work Description

Condensed in a glossy slim volume, Bittersweet Recall is a visual arrangement of emigrant tensions present in Portuguese diasporas in the United States. Drawing from original photography, private photo albums, and public domain european records, Bittersweet Recall acknowledges the nuances of a fluctuating citizenry: a string of silent lives, dispersed imaginations challenging dominant nationalist narratives, and the interiority of diasporic spaces in contrast to the booming tourist economy that has only grown since its publication. Featured in AIPAD 2022 New York City; and at Athens Photo Fest 2017. In photo book collections at The Museum of Hellenic Photography, Greece; The Museum of Fine art Phoenix, USA; and the International Center of Photography New York.
