Publisher Note

In the Mont Blanc massif, Éric Bouvet has been producing, since 2019, a series of large format 20x25cm and 10x12 cm camera images, which is an ode to the steep and spiritual nature of the mountain. To take these images, Bouvet uses processes unchanged since the 19th century in the vein of William Henry Fox-Talbot's calotype. The image is taken on photosensitive paper which replaces the film in the camera frames, giving depth and mystery to the final result. Behind each of these images there is also the physical gesture of conquering the summit.

“From these summits that we thought we knew – writes Olivier Weber in the preface – new landscapes emerge, faces with silver reflections, sparkling domes, marbling similar to the trunk of an old tree, slopes of peaks solitary as ever in the face of a portraitist who is just as solitary. »

The whole forms at the same time an aesthetic of stone, a poetics of landscape, a metaphor of ascension. In all circumstances an elevation.
