Publisher Note
HYPERVENEZIA, scheduled from 5 September 2021 to 9 January 2022 at Palazzo Grassi, is an exhibition dedicated to the city of Venice on the occasion of the 1600 years since its foundation, which presents for the first time to the public the "Venice Urban Photo Project"Designed and created by Mario Peliti. The volume, designed by Sonnoli, includes about 400 photographs and narrative contributions by Alain Fleischer and architect Franco Mancuso, as well as an introductory text by curator Matthieu Humery.
Mario Peliti has concentrated his work on a bold artistic bet, not unlike the work of an entomologist or an archaeologist, tirelessly accumulating traces, testimonies, particularities and signs of a city that you think you know but that actually has many secrets to reveal. Despite the numerous transformations that took place in the lagoon city during the last century - so much to say that its historic center was among the most built in the twentieth century - so far there has never been an organic photographic campaign dedicated to the representation of the entire urban fabric of Venice able to describe its extraordinary complexity and continuity.
