Publisher Note

Language and the subject of translation play an important role in Daniela Keiser’s oeuvre. Over the years, a large number of translation works have been created, which the artist summarizes under the term “In and Out of Translation”.
This eighth volume in the fink twice series of paperbacks is the first collection of texts and materials from these groups of works. They are often reproductions of the original type scripts as they are displayed in the installations, sometimes existing only in a single copy and visible only when the work is shown in an exhibition. Some of these translations are published in their individual publications, many of which are out of print or contain edited versions of the texts.
One of the texts collected here is the record of a symposium held in 2014 to discuss issues related to translation. Translation is also the subject of a completely new work by Daniela Keiser, the “Treffen für Übersetzung” (Meeting for Translation), which took place on April 8, 2017, and which will appear as a separate volume at the same time as this publication. In it, some of the works gathered here are addressed, so that this volume is recommended to the readers of that conversation as illustrative material, and vice-versa, this volume is recommended to the readers of that conversation as a more in-depth reading here.
