Publisher Note
This book retraces the course of a day's work at the La Houve mine, whose exploitation ceased definitively on April 23, 2004. Immersed in the heart of a vanished world, the photographer Éric Bouvet testifies with sensitivity to the force ties that united the men of the mine. Striking in black and white, which shows machines, exhausted faces returning from the bottom, his photographs punctuated by the words of miners, constitute a vibrant tribute to a major activity in our industrial history.
The work is prefaced by Aurélie Filippetti, daughter of a miner and author of the novel The Last Days of the Working Class (Stock, 2003).
