Publisher Note
A new vision of exile where displaced people rediscover their identity and their humanity.
The Atlas in motion brings together the work that Mathieu Pernot has carried out for more than ten years in collaboration with migrants. What can we imagine of boats swallowed up by the Mediterranean Sea? Can a forest keep the memory of those who have crossed it? What can the sky tell us about the history of those who look at it?
This atlas of images, a montage of photographs, videos, manuscripts, maps and found objects, proposes the construction of a story with several voices and reverses the usual point of view on migrants: from anonymous and anxiety-provoking subjects of media time, they become named individuals, repositories of knowledge and of their own history.
