Publisher Note
The drawings collected in the publication “Lichtstücke” all refer to the lighting conditions in a corner of the artist's studio of Hanna Züllig in Uster. The bodies shown, drawn on the computer, correspond to the directly incident volume of light.
Hanna Züllig’s attention is focused on the ephemeral, the seemingly incorporeal and the incomprehensible time. Her discovery of the light pieces was – seen in this light – inevitable. The light bodies materialize an apparently incorporeal thing by removing, so to speak, the shadow from the light that it does not cast. To make it physical, they hold on to light, which it is not at first: they translate brightness into darkness, the spherical into the opaque, energy into matter.
