Publisher Note
Tafelsatz (set of plates), an early work by Rutishauser/Kuhn, assembles 8 maxims on their artistic work on 8 manifesto plates. “we produce TEXT. we move in, not across the LANGUAGE. we do not judge the words, we display them. primarily we are not interested in the interpretation of the language, but in its perception. we are interested in the structure of the language, then in its idea.”
Not only the work of the artist duo was created according to principles like this, but also publications like the one here. By placing isolated maxims, extracted from a larger context, in the space, they begin to refer to everything – or then nothing – and lose their meaning. Only in this way – another maxim – can they be used again: neutral and devoid of meaning.
