Publisher Note
Tombola is a collaboration between photographer Antonio Biasiucci and artist Mimmo Paladino.
Tombola (bingo game) starts from number 1, Italy. Then the two, "to Piccerella and then 3 again, "to Jatta, the 4th, "o Puorco and so on until the last one, "to Paura’. There are the 90 numbers that make up the tombola, seen through the definitions of the Neapolitan Smorfia.
Biasiucci’s black and white images are accompanied by numbers specially designed by Mimmo Paladino: together they wind through suffused archetypal meanings and visionary suggestions. The homage to Naples, to the historical memory of the city, to the "book of dreams" from which the Smorfia derives, is contained in these 90 images, each with its intimate, profound reference to the number that represents it and to the meaning that the tradition attributes them.
The volume is accompanied by a large double-sided board, two grids on which the images of Antonio Biasiucci are arranged on one side and the numbers of Mimmo Paladino on the other side.
