Publisher Note

The library of Andres Lutz and Anders Guggisberg is a work in progress. To date, about 250 so-called book models have been created, unique pieces consisting of a wooden core covered with a coloured inkjet print as a fictitious book cover. Lutz and Guggisberg freely invent authors, book titles, publisher's names, and sometimes even entire blurb texts, but they also freely make use of the stereotypes of common publications or use their inventions to evoke existing author and publisher names in surprising new combinations.
The book topics are wide-ranging and range from popular science volumes (Und Reiche versanken), contributions to archaeology (Mandalas aus der Vogelschau), art volumes, exhibition catalogues, trivial literature, encyclopaedias, textbooks, to works of fine literature (Das Frühstück der Plastiken, Das erste Still). Thus a kind of parallel world is created, which over long stretches is so similar to the real world that it can be confused with it, but which in some cases even produces strange flowers (Frail Saints by Haile Gebreselassie).
Andres Lutz and Anders Guggisberg have already integrated individual titles and groups from the library’s holdings into their multipartite installations. This publication is the first time that a large number of titles have been brought together and presented in an overview. The form of the publication also allows an in-depth study, which is difficult to achieve in the context of an exhibition. The book brochure is intended as an artist's booklet and as a supplementary part of the work Library. With the means of a publication, the play with reality and fiction is taken one step further.
