Publisher Note

The artist’s book “Ecke, Hoek, Hörn” by Veronika Spierenburg accompanies her solo exhibition in the Aargauer Kunsthaus on the occasion of the Manor Art Prize award. The publication contains the photographic work “Ecke, Hoek, Hörn” (Corner) as well as the text work “Licht, Licht, Ljus” (Light) and is conceived as an extension of the exhibition, as an additional space.
The question of the meaning of space and how she can approach it directly as an artist is a main component in Veronika Spierenburg’s work. For the publication and exhibition, she has systematically explored the architectural structures and interiors of the Kunsthaus in Glarus (CH), the Östergötland Museum in Linköping (SE) and the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam (NL) and, based on this, designed a multi-part group of works.
The photographic work “Ecke, Hoek, Hörn” published here shows twelve photographs of four corner situations of one room from each of the three museums printed on both sides of six folded loose sheets. The text work “Licht, Licht, Ljus”, composed of isolated light terms from travel reports and studies on museum buildings, which Veronika Spierenburg found in the archives of the three museums, is integrated between the pages of the text booklet that is folded around the picture sheets.
In addition to these artistic contributions developed especially for this publication, three texts provide different approaches to Veronika Spierenburg’s work. While Martin Jaeggi’s contribution gives a revealing overview of the artist's central themes and artistic strategies, Mik Gruber’s essay focuses on the perception of light and space. A conversation between Nicole Rampa and Katrin Weilenmann and Veronika Spierenburg offers exciting insights into the artist’s thinking.
