Structured into three series, this illustrated book brings together the extensive collection of photographs taken by Daniela Keiser in Cairo in winter 2008/2009. Observed from inside a building on Champollion Road, 296 photographs unfold a picture of the adjacent area. The same buildings, roofs, and trees appear again and again, in the midday light, at sunset, or at night in the reflection of electric light. A repetition that sharpens our perception. Slight shifts in perspective, time of day and weather direct our attention to ever new details.
The illustrated book is accompanied by a collection of conversations in which – based on the viewing of the photographs – Egyptian everyday life is at the centre. The acoustic recordings of these observations, descriptions and narratives provide additional insights into this part of the city. They are available online as audio sequences and can be accessed together with further information via the project website.
