Publisher Note

The present edition appears in the series “Performance Saga, Interviews 01–08”, which collects recordings of conversations with female pioneers of performance art and provides insight into their self-image and thinking.
The work of Joan Jonas is situated at the melting point of performance, video, drawing and installation. Her work is a constantly growing complex on questions of identity, transcultural exchange and narrative strategies that has been growing since 1968. As interdisciplinary explorations, the American artist’s work inspires a younger generation of artists around the world.
In a conversation among artists, Joan Jonas provides information about her work and talks about the conditions under which her work was created. A text booklet with a contribution by Inge Hinterwaldner completes this DVD edition.
