With the artist book “Happy & Convoy” Rolf Graf presents an impressive collection of drawings by a Romanian artist working under the pseudonym Happy & Convoy.
The extensive collection of meticulous ballpoint pen and pencil drawings causes some irritation: Weapons – especially knives, pistols and axes – stand alongside technical machine pictures and romantically transfigured subjects. Common to all motifs is a clear view of the depicted object and an impressive presence of the stroke.
The Swiss artist Rolf Graf, who lives in Berlin, has encountered Happy & Convoy, who lives as an outsider on the street, during a visit to Bucharest in autumn 2004, and has purchased works by him. As editor of this publication, he has compiled the extensive material and provided the drawings for this project.
