Publisher Note
The focus of this publication is the art class, whose graduates have had a decisive influence on the Swiss art scene for years. This is the Fine Arts (SBK) course at the Zurich School of Art and Design (HGKZ), which was founded as a course in 1985 and quickly established itself as a competent institute of artistic education.
The original artistic contributions to this volume are by former students and reflect in their diversity the open mentality of the art class.
The texts reflect various aspects of the complex process of “art” from different perspectives: from the weighty detailed decisions in the production of works to a theory of artistic research and art as a social event. Statements by personalities of cultural life on the question of the demands made on art today, as well as contributions by lecturers, artists, and freelance art historians were written especially for this publication.
The present book offers realities for all those interested in the artistic education of today and in the art of tomorrow. It also provides the most necessary information on the structure and content of the course.)
